Black Cumin

Black Cumin, also known as Nigella sativa, is native to southwest Asia. Cumin is the second most popular spice in the world. Being a subtropical plant, cumin requires long growing season.

Other common names for Black Cumin around the world are: fennel flower, nutmeg flower, Roman coriander, blackseed, black caraway, or black onion seed. Other names used, sometimes misleadingly, are onion seed and black sesame, both of which are similar-looking but unrelated.

In Bengali Black Cumin is called: kalo jira, kalo jeera, or kali jeera.

Cumin It is grown for its aromatic and flavorful seeds. Black Cumin is used for cooking, and extensively used in the Middle East, Turkey, and Western Asia. The aromatic seeds of Black Cumin are used in many Indian spice mixtures, as well as in bread. Black Cumin seeds can be ground in a peppermill and used like pepper

Black Cumin Seed is one of the most revered medicinal seeds in history. The best seeds come from Egypt where they grow under almost perfect conditions. Black Cumin Seeds were found in the tomb of Tutankhamun.
