Butterfly Weed is still used European and American folk medicine as as expectorant and anti-inflammatory. Native Americans used
Butterfly Weed as an expectorant for wet coughs and other pulmonary ailments. Use of the herb is prohibited in pregnancy, during lactation or with infants due to the small amount of cardiac glycosides.
Butterfly Weed may take up to two years to become established from seed.
