Calamus is an ancient herb of the East.
Calamus has been used for over two thousand years by the Moso sorcerers of Yunnan, China, and in Ayurvadic medicine for bronchitis, fevers, and asthma. In China it is commonly ingested to treat constipation and swelling.
Calamus is a mild sedative and is known for its beneficial effects on the stomach, and for it ability to help relieve dyspepsia, gastritis and hyper-acidity.
Calamus was referenced in the Bible, in the book of Exodus, as one ingredient in an ointment that Moses was ordered to apply to his body when approaching the tabernacle.
