Cardinal Flower Seeds
Overpicking has resulted in scarcity of this flower in the wild!
The name of this bright red flower “Cardinal” alludes to the bright red robes worn by the Roman Catholic cardinals.
The Cardinal Flower is considered a great treasure in the garden because of the true red color it provides. Cardinals also boast an exceptionally long bloom time (mid-Summer – Fall)- making them even more desirable.
Cardinal Flowers can be found to grow native along streams all over the Southern United Sates
Insects find it difficult to navigate the long tubular flowers so, Cardinal Flowers depend on hummingbirds, which feed on the nectar, as pollination.
Combine the Cardinals with any plant that loves moist soil conditions. Ferns and Hostas make good companion plants for these flowers. |
