Catnip Seeds
Catnip, also known as
Nepta cataria, is native to Europe, Asia, and Africa, and is also common in North America.
Catnip pleasantly stimulates cats' pheromonic receptors resulting in temporary euphoria. The flowers and leaves can be dried and used in herbal teas. Some herbalists claim that
Catnip has a sedative effect on humans. However, no scientific studies have been able to prove such a claim.
Catnip has sturdy stems with opposite heart-shaped, green to grayish-green leaves. It blooms flowers that are white, blue, pink or lilac and occur in several clusters toward the tip of the stems. The
Catnip flowers are tubular and spotted with tiny purple dots. The
Catnip scent is said to drive mice away.
