Catsfoot Seeds
Catsfoot, also known as
Antennaria dioica, is native to the Northern hemisphere.
Catsfoot is dioecious, but can also reproduce without fertilisation. It can grow in groups which can be all-female colonies, all-male colonies, and also mixed colonies. The male plants have whiter flowerheads than female plants.
Catsfoot has been periodically used in herbal medicine. It was once used in mixtures for the treatment of bronchitis and bilious conditions. This plant is very rich in mucilage which makes it very valuable in the treatment of chest complaints. It is also used in the treatment of liver and gall bladder complaints, hepatitis and diarrhea. The whole
catsfoot plant is an antitussive, astringent, cholagogue, discutient, diuretic and emollient. Externally it is used as a gargle for treating tonsillitis and as a douche for vaginitis. Generally, the
catsfoot herb is gathered in May before it comes into flower and can be dried for later use.
Catsfoot makes an excellent ground cover. It produces a tight mat of slowly spreading branches.
This herb blooms mid-summer and it's flowers look like baby kitten paws. It's the perfect plant for a "Moon Garden".
Catsfoot is a very rare seed.
