Chaste Tree Seeds
We have stopped carrying Chaste Tree Seed (Vitex agnus castus). We offer another Vitex, (Vitex negundo heterophylla) also with medicinal uses. This substitution will be made to your order.
Chaste Tree, also known as Vitex agnus castus, Vitex, Chaste Tree, Hemp Tree, Chasteberry, and Monk's Pepper, is native of the Mediterranean region.
It is believed to be a male anaphrodisiac, hence the name Chaste Tree. The flowers of the Chaste Tree are followed by a fleshy fruit that contains four seeds that can be used as a seasoning, similar to black pepper, hence the name "Monks pepper". The leaves resemble those of the hemp plant which provides yet another common name, "Hemp Tree".
The Chaste Tree is used by herbalists and folk medicine practitioners to normalize hormones. Studies in Germany indicate that the extract from the seeds can increase the production of some female hormones that stimulate the flow of breast milk and regulate ovulation and menstruation.
Danger: Handling plant may cause skin irritation or allergic reaction
