Damiana Seeds

Damiana grows wild in the subtropical regions of the Americas and Africa and is widely used in traditional medicine as an anti-cough, diuretic (increasing urine flow), and aphrodisiac (sexual stimulant) agent.

Our Damiana Seeds (turnera diffusa seeds) are organically grown in Georgia! Check out our blog for tips on how to grow Damiana from these seeds. In traditional Mexican culture, Damiana is used for gastrointestinal disorders. Damiana extract has shown antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, which may have gastrointestinal effects.

Damiana appears on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) GRAS (generally recognized as safe) list and is widely used as a food flavoring. However, because Damiana contains low levels of cyanide-like compounds, excessive doses may be dangerous so caution should be used in it's consumption.

Traditionally, 2-4 grams (2 oz = 56 grams) of dried Damiana leaf, three times a day, or the same dose steeped in 150 milliliters of boiling water for 5-10 minutes, consumed two to three times a day has been used. 3-4 grams of powdered leaf in tablets or capsules can be used two to three times a day. These are the traditionally recommended doses for Adults.

Not Damiana, but Yellow Alder! December 22, 2014
Reviewer: Jennifer Allen from West Chazy, NY United States
This does not appear to have grown into Turnera diffusa, but Turnera ulmifolia (Yellow Alder), which has entirely different features and medicinal qualities. I grew these seeds as directed, they germinated and grew quickly in an isolated potted culture in upstate NY (where they do not grow natively, in either species case), and I now have a lovely, but mislabeled, Yellow Alder bush. The seeds were good, but not for the plant I ordered! Otherwise, the rating would be much better.
