Forellenschuss Lettuce Seeds
Forellenschluss Lettuce, also known as
Flashy Trout Back Lettuce, is traceable as far back as 1660 in Holland. This variety traveled through Germany until 1790 when it was first brought to Canada and then to the US.
Forellenschluss means “speckled like a trout” and refers to the lettuce's gorgeous green leaves that are speckled with deep red.
This
lettuce is especially heat and cold tolerant and will do well in almost any climate.
Forellenschluss has crispy, thick, butter-head leaves that taste similar to watercress.
Forellenschuss Lettuce won an award for best flavor in the 1997 seed savers exchange trials.
