Foxglove Seeds

Foxglove, also known as Common Foxglove, Purple Foxglove or Lady's Glove produces beautiful large bell-shaped flowers on tall flower spikes, very attractive background plant.

The scientific name means "finger-like" and refers to the ease with which a flower of Digitalis purpurea can be fitted over a human fingertip. Individual flowers resemble the snipped off fingers of a glove, hence the common name of "foxglove". The flowering stem of this breathtaking biennial, develops in the second year.

A late spring bloomer, the flowers of the Foxglove reach their peak about the same time as roses begin to bloom. These flowers are highly attractive to hummingbirds.

Used as a commercial source of digitalis

This plant inspired a famous poem by the Italian poet Giovanni Pascoli titled "Digitale Purpurea". This is a poem about the destructive power of sexual passion symbolized by the foxglove.
