Ginkgo Tree, also known as
Maidenhair Tree, is native to southeast China.
The
Ginkgo Tree is a prehistoric tree, being one of the oldest trees on earth as some specimens are claimed to be more than 2,500 years old. For centuries the
Ginkgo Tree was thought to be extinct in the wild, but is now known to grow in at least two small areas in Zhejiang province in Eastern China, in the Tian Mu Shan Reserve.
In addition to the
Ginkgo Tree's unique appearance, it is a very useful herbal medicine. Chemicals found in
Ginkgo biloba increase the blood flow in the body which then helps treat strokes, heart disease, heart palpitations, impotence, deafness, failing eyesight, and memory.
Ginkgo biloba is also used by India's Ayurvadic healers who associated it with longevity.
