Oreganos are not Created Equal!
Greek Oregano is widely considered the most flavorful of all Oreganos.
Greek Oregano originated in the Mediterranean, specifically Greece and Turkey, and was brought to North America by the colonists.
Oregano has multiple medicinal uses including indigestion, coughs and toothaches.
Oregano has also been used in cosmetics.
However, the main and most popular use of
Oregano is, of course, in cooking.
Oregano is a necessity it Italian sauces and pizzas and enhances the flavor off all cheese and egg dishes.
Oregano sprigs should be cut when the plants are 6" tall. To dry, hang
Oregano sprigs in small bunches in a shady area with good air circulation. Dry
Oregano should be stored in a tight jar in a cool, dark place.
Oregano is said to enhance the growth of beans and they make great companion plants in your home garden.
When planting from seed, be sure to check the Latin name, many seeds that are packaged as "oregano" are really "wild marjoram".
