Hopi Red Dye Amaranth Seeds

Hopi Red Dye Amaranth is also known as Purple Amaranth, Red Amaranth and Prince's Feather.

Hopi Red Dye Amaranth is a beautiful ornamental herb with richly colored maroon leaves and fantastic long flower bracts. The Marroon flowers are used by the Hopi Indians as a ceremonial food dye and to produce red cornbread.

As with Grain Amaranths, the young plants and young leaves make nutritious steamed greens. The immature flower bracts can be used as a flower dye and the edible black seeds can be ground to make a high protein, gluten-free flour.

These seeds are also edible and can be used as an alternative to Poppy Seeds in recipes.
