Lady's Mantle
Lady's Mantle
, also known as
Alchemilla vulgaris
, is native to cool temperate and subarctic regions of Europe and Asia, with a few species native to the mountains of Africa, North America and South America.
Lady's Mantle
is a beautiful addition to any herb garden or unusual backyard vegetable garden! A profusion of yellow-green flowers in loose clusters begins in May and continues all summer.
Lady's Mantle's
blue-green scalloped shaped leaves have a characteristic of catching the morning dew in the funnel shaped fold at the base of the leaf. Alchemists once believed that the little pearls of dew contained mystical powers and therefore were used in many magical potions.
The dried leaves of
Lady's Mantle
are commonly used by herbalists in tea to relieve discomfort of menopause and excessive menstrual bleeding.
The root of
Lady's Mantle
is edible, as are the leaves, which sheep and cattle really enjoy.
