Licorice Basil Seeds

Licorice Basil also known as Anise Basil is known for its sweet scent and flavor. This popular basil variety offers a licorice-like taste with a hint of clove. Licorice basil’s unique flavor is due to a chemical called anethole that is produced in the plant. Anise also contains this same chemical giving it a licorice aroma.

The Licorice Basil has a mulberry-tint and resembles Cinnamon Basil. Although the two basils may look similar their scents are dramatically different.

This easy to grow lanky-growing bushy basil grows taller than most basil varieties reaching sometimes over thirty inches tall. The plants produce an attractive pinkish-purple flower on pretty purple stems.

Creative chefs especially love this unusual basil's flavor to add excitement and spunk taste to a variety of foods. Licorice Basil may be used like sweet basil and makes a lovely tinted vinegar. This basil can also be used to make unique jam, jelly or tea. Blend Licorice Basil into herbal honey or sorbet to give them a surprising kick or give a mystical flavor to salads and sauces. Tomato dishes are also well accented by its unusual flavor.

As with all basils, you can also use this basil in the garden as a natural insecticide to repel aphids, mites, and tomato horn worms.
