"marigold" which comes from
Mary's Gold", a name that was, at one time, exclusively applied to
Calendula
Marigold have a strong, musky scent which cause them to deter common insect pests, including nematodes. It is for this reason that
marigold are considered great companion plants for tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, potatoes and tobacco plants.
The
tegates genus of flowers originated in North and South America but are now naturalized around the world.
