Northern Brewer hops

The Northern Brewer Hops is a hard to find hops that was originally developed in England in 1934 from a cross between a female hop of wild American parentage and an English male. Northern Brewer is grown in Europe and America as a dual-purpose hop, but mainly is used for bittering in combination with other hops.

Northern Brewer has a woody/earthy/fruity aroma and flavor. Northern Brewer is the signature hop in Anchor Steam and typifies what has been called the California Common "not-quite-ale/not-quite-lager" style.
