Hallertauer Hops

Hallertauer Hops or Hallertau Hops is the original German lager hop; named after the Hallertau or Holledau region in central Bavaria. These hops are traditionally grown in the Halletau region but also in Spalt, Hersburck and Mitterfruh.

Hallertauer is considered a good to very good aroma hop and is said to be pleasant and hoppy with a mild to semi-strong aroma. Hellertauer can add a pungent spiciness when used as a bittering hop.

Due to susceptibility to crop disease, Hallertauer was largely replaced by Hersbrucker in the 1970s and 1980s.
