Dried Peppermint Leaf

Peppermint is a very versatile herb and can be steeped for tea, added to tinctures and ointments, used in cooking and more.

Peppermint promotes healthy digestion by soothing and comforting the stomach. It is also known to reduce intestinal cramping, relieve respiratory difficulties, reduce feelings of nausea and heartburn, improve bile production and flow and discourage the growth of harmful bacteria in the stomach. Peppermint is considered a general stimulant, cleansing and strengthening the entire body.

Peppermint is a hybrid of watermint and spearmint. Indigenous to Europe, it is now widely cultivated throughout the world. Sometimes referred to as "the world's oldest medicine", this herb has been used for centuries to settle tummy upset and freshen breath. Today, the United States is the most important producer of Peppermint and Peppermint oil.

The genus name Mentha is derived from the Greek Mintha. According to Greek mythology, when Persephone found out that Pluto was in love with the beautiful nymph Mintha, she was overcome with jealousy. She changed Mintha into a lowly plant. Pluto, unable to undo Persephone’s spell, used his power to soften the spell, so that the more Mintha was tread upon, the sweeter her smell would be.
