Sweet Marjoram Seeds

Sweet Marjoram is thought to be native to North Africa and Southeast Asia and it now naturalizes in the mediterranean region. In Greek history the plant was referred to as "joy of the mountain" and it was believed to be precious to Aphrodite, the Goddess of love. Newlyweds were crowned with Marjoram on their wedding day as a symbol of this belief.

Marjoram has a flavor similar to Oregano but is sweeter and more mild.

Marjoram may be substituted for Oregano in sauces for pizza, lasagna and Parmesan dishes. Marjoram is well suited for flavoring many dishes including; veal, beef, lamb, roast, poultry, fish, pate, green vegetables, carrots, onion, cauliflower, eggplant, eggs, mushrooms, potatoes squash and tomatoes.

Marjoram is also known for its healing properties. It can be stimulating when added to a bath or used as an antiseptic, an aid for rheumatoid pain, tension headaches and minor digestive problems. It can be used in potpourri or added to sachets for linen and clothing cupboards.
