Tepin Pepper Seeds
The
Tepin or
Chiltepin is believed to be the "original" wild chile- the one from which all others have evolved!
The
Tepin pepper grows wild in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and northern Mexico. It’s tiny, about the size of a large pea, or peppercorn.
The Tepin has been measured at 265,000 Scoville units making it the 8th hottest pepper in the world- Although, it is promoted by some as the world's hottest pepper.
It is very decorative and bright scarlet red in color.Despite its high heat level, this pepper is attractive to wild birds, who helped to distribute it across the prehistoric Americas.
The
Tepin can take up to 200 days to give ripe fruit but, all who have grown them say the are worth the wait.
Tepin peppers are part of the bird’s or bird’s eye pepper variety.
