Valerian Seeds
Valerian, also known as
Garden Heliotrope and All Heal, is native Europe and parts of Asia.
Valerian is an ornamental herb that produces airy clusters of delicate white flowers. The flowers of
Valerian give off a sweet aroma of vanilla. The dried roots are used to make herbal teas.
Valerian is used as a sedative for nervous tension, hysteria, excitability, stress and intestinal colic or cramps.
Valerian has been used as a medicinal herb since the time of ancient Greece and Rome. Hippocrates prescribed
Valerian for insomnia. In medieval Sweden,
Valerian was sometimes placed in the wedding clothes of the groom to ward off the "envy" of the elves.
Valerian roots will give a cat the same sense of ecstasy as
catnip.
Valerian is a mild stimulant. Though it doesn't do any harm, it shouldn't be given to cats with kidney ailments.
