Yellow Granex Onion Seeds
The high demand for the
Yellow Granex has made it one of few hybrid varieties we carry. This beloved
onion variety was hybridized in 1931. A
Vidalia type onion favored for its intensely sweet flavor.
Yellow Granex Onions are large, firm, flattened white globes with good storage ability.
The
Yellow Granex is the most popular
onion variety in America and is the same sweet yellow onion that's famously grown in Vidalia, Georgia.
This is a
Short Day onion variety.
Long day vs Short Day Onions:
Northern gardeners should plant
long-day onions (like the
Yellow of Parma Onion). In the North, daylight length varies greatly as you get farther and father away from the equator. Winter days are very short, but summer days are long. Long-day onions will have a chance to produce lots of top growth (hence produce bigger bulbs) before the day length triggers bulbing. If short-day onions were grown in the North, the onions would bulb up too early and they would be small by comparison.
